Interview with Graffiti Artists

Today I asked a few graffiti artists that work around east london about their views of street art/graffiti and recorded what they said on my phone. From this, I learnt that I cannot use my phone/another phone to record someone's voice for a voiceover in my documentary for future reference, when someone I ask to interview doesn't like the idea of being on screen, shown to others. I realised that other factors at the time of recording, can affect the quality of the recording(wind blowing by, people making noises around the same area). Below is a few examples of what resulted me recording with my phone.

I plan to record all voiceovers, and interviews with my camera, and then later on edit out any unwanted clips, when it comes to putting my documentary clips altogether.

I also learnt that when it comes to doing an interview i should be ready with a set questionnaire, as time can be wasted and i would have to make more arrangements to meet up with people and set aside more time than planned.

My Target Audience, OFCOM Guidelines

OFCOM

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/tv/ifi/codes/bcode/

This shows the OFCOM Broadcasting Code, which explains what they allow to be shown for screening. It looks at 12 sections of the rules that they follow, 4 appendixes and a brief explanation with the background of the code. The code lets you know what you can/cannot display on screen for viewers to see.

My target audience for my TV Doc would be aimed at those who are 15 - 20, as I want to focus on the new generation of art lovers in the world today. The main purpose of my Street Art Doc is to inform the public about the street art around London, and how people should appreciate artwork more. By watching my Street Art Doc, I want the viewers to be able to know an official definition of what Street Art is and what it is all about. I don't think I will be including any footage of nudity and inappropriate language.

Further Research

Brainstorming Spider Diagram using LucidChart.

Here is a snapshot of what it looks like while I was in the middle of creating it.

Here is a link to the LucidChart web friendly version.

Bomb It

http://www.bombit-themovie.com/trailer.php

I liked the way bold words came up on the screen as you could hear voiceovers of the people that are being interviewed - I would like to use the same sort of idea to emphasize some important notes for the viewer to remember and think about while watching my extract.

'Street Art' - Short Graffiti Documentary

http://www.homepagedaily.com/Pages/article8061-street-art---short-graffiti-documentary.aspx

I liked the way there was some close up shots of some of the street artists, where at times you could only see parts of their faces - I think this could be a good camera angle to use if some of the street artists that I may come across doesn't want to be known to the public.

Philip Sherrod NYC street artist documentary

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUMS0UdZldU

I liked the opening shots at the beginning of this Doc, where all you could see were the pieces of artwork that the artist has done - This idea could be used for the beginning of my extract, where the viewer can be able to see the different types of street art out there in the London Public, with the camera panning, showing graffiti-style, sculptures and the historic architecture that we may see everyday.

Open Air Street Art or Graffiti with Tiki Jay One, Skewville, and Michael de Feo

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4861405294651539035#

I think I would like to use the same sort of genre of music, that is played throughout this Doc, as it has a lively rhythm, making the Doc seem more interesting. I also think, that this type of music is best suited for an art documentary.

Sickert's London

I liked the way this Doc included some shots in the streets of London where you saw cars driving by diagonally panning up to the left of buildings nearby - I think this would be a good idea to set the location of where I will be filming, and to tell the viewer where in London I'll be looking at/focusing on.

Nathaniel Kahn: My father, my architect

Ted, a popular director who does open shows/events in America, filmed a Doc about his father and his artwork. I liked the way he films his interviews whereby, the viewer mostly sees shots of the interviewee while they are having a conversation, and you don't see Ted that much - I think this would be a good idea for my Doc, as it would make the viewer concentrate more on the people being interviewed, and what they've got to say.
