Presentation

Presentation

Almost forgot.

Here is the presentation of the two options that I want to look into.

A few notes:
There are two youtube clips embedded in there (make sure you have high-speed internet connection)
You can use the Tab key to go through the presentation using the path that I presented in. (But you can also zoom in and out as much as you like)

Enjoy!

Brand Logos

Just had one or two ideas about Branding Logos for the band if I go ahead with the Music Video:

WaterChed-LogoWaterChed-Logo2

Band Name Change?

The original band name was WaterShed, which was great, and I named this blog after it.

The thing is in terms of marketing and finding our feet in terms of uniqueness, the term WaterShed has about 11 million hits on Google. Not only that, but a band called Watershed are based in South Africa. (See Link Here)

So. Now what?

A play on words and a quick Google search shows that the name "WaterChed" only results in about 200 hits.

So now if we push forward with this project, there will be a clear distinction for the band branding when fans Google the name.

TV Documentary Ideas

If I would go along with producing a TV Documentary I would do the following things:

  • research and study Banksy, a popular street artist

  • take pictures of street art/graffiti/street artists

  • film live footage of street artists doing their art pieces in the public

  • interview people in the public on their opinion of street art

  • interview street artists

  • research and look through street art books

  • film footage outside art galleries' entrances

Update on my first initial ideas

At first, I wanted to do a music video as I knew I could get an original band and use original music produced from them. My first opinion on making a music video was that it would be fun and interesting to work with.

Then, I came up with an idea for a TV Documentary about street art, as art is my favourite subject and I feel that the public art in London isn't always appreciated and looked upon as they should be. In some way, graffiti is street art, but local people feel that it damages the appearance of London, and to others it is rude and should be banned. As a fan and lover of art, I feel that there is a big difference between public art and graffiti. Public art in London should be treated better and I don't like how public art is criticised negatively.

Moreover, while I was on my travels the other day, I came up with an idea to do a TV documentary on 'The Journey of Life' where I would capture the journey on the train from Elephant & Castle -to- Harrow & Wealdstone. Filming a journey that local people take everyday, everyday of their lives.

However, today I decided to focus on my music video idea and my first TV Documentary idea about Street Art as I feel that they are the ones that will be most enjoyable to produce, and they both have a deeper meaning/message between them.

Reflection of Media Studies

Last year, I learnt how to use digital technologies and how to produce videos on iMovie with Mac Computers. I also learnt how to work with the programs, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign. Moreover, I learnt how to analyse moving images/video clips to create meaning for an audience, discussing sound, editing, mise-en-scene, camera angles, movement & shots, as well as composition.

Using Adobe Photoshop I learnt how to manipulate images using different tools

  • Selecting certain objects from an image, and applying it to another image

  • Change the colour levels of an image an give effect

  • Making an image look more colour balanced

  • Correcting red eyes from images

  • Eliminate spots from skin, make skin look more healthy

  • Increase/adjust the contrast level

  • Making colour pictures to greyscale black and white

  • Make blurry images more clear and have defined colour

  • Applying filters to images

  • Layering images on top each other, and changing the opacity of the image at the foreground, so that you are able to see both images clearly, giving a transparent/opaque effect

  • Changing the colours of certain areas in an image

  • Cropping images

  • Adjusting the size of an image

Using Adobe InDesign I learnt how to design/create/adjust individual documents:

  • Typing text along a path (eg edges around ahapes/objects)

  • Spacing out the letters in the text

  • Stretching

I studied heat magazine, and learnt how media products are produced and distributed.

This year, I want to learn how to produce a music video/TV documentary. I also want to apply my skills with Adobe InDesign from last year, and learn how I can use it in everyday situations. Another thing that I would like to learn this year, is to be able to theorise my production work.

Looking at my performance in AS Media Studies, I think that my preliminary could have been worked on better and I think that the main task went well. As Director of Photography in my group, I applied my artistic skills and made sure that everything looked nice on screen. I think I could of done even better, if I made more time for filming, work on the different angles and if I made more back-ups for actors in order not to delay the filming and push things to the last minute.

My three targets to improve for this year are:

  • skills with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign

  • my knowledge of forms and conventions
